10 Types Of Fishing Lures That Can Help You Catch The Big One

When it comes to fishing lures, you want to be sure you have the right one for the job but with so many to choose from how do you pick the best one? The waters you are fishing, the time of year and the weather all have an impact on what type of lure will look tasty to the species of fish you were trying to catch.

There are a variety of different lures, all in different shapes sizes and colors and most avid anglers have quite a selection in their tackle box. Here are a few types you might want to include in your list of fishing gear.

Dive Watch

Surface Lures

These are lures that you retrieve along the surface of the water and are fun to use since the fish explodes up out of the water in order to take in the lure. They are great if you're fishing in waters that have a lot of weeds since they remain on the top and are less likely to get tangled in the weeds. Surface lures come in all kinds of colors and shapes and it's fun to pick them out in the store and find the ones that work best for you.

Spoons

Spoons are a simple metal lure that looks like a spoon. When you retrieve them they make a wobbling motion which is attractive to fish. They are inexpensive and fairly easy to use so a great choice for beginners.

Spinners

This type of fishing lore has a blade that rotates and the rotating motion gives off a reflection which imitates the light glinting off of fish scales in the water. When you are retrieving a spinner, you can alter the speed that you retrieve thus making it look like an injured fish. If you're fishing for pike a large spinner can be great but if you go in for mullet or trout try a smaller size.

Jerk Baits

Jerk baits don't have any movement on their own but allow the angler to jerk them and bring them to life like a wounded fish or worm. You cast them into the water and then make a jerky motion with your rod which simulates the movements of an injured fish making it look like a tasty morsel to the fish you are trying to attract.

Soft Baits

These are soft rubber baits that could look like long worms or frogs or a bunch of other shapes. Typically these are used with a weighted jig head and retreat slowly or in a jerky motion.

Floating Divers

This type of fishing lure sinks into the water after you cast and can cover depths up to 15 feet or more. Each floor is designed for a different depth and this depends on the angle of the lure. A lure with a smaller angle will dive deeper than a lore with a bigger angle. Depending on the depth of the water that your target fish hangs out in will dictate the type of lure you use.

Light Standard Casting Lures

Standard casting lures can be used to catch a large range of fish including certain types of bass if retrieve data slow to medium speed. They range from about 1/16 of announced to 3 ounces and are typically used for freshwater fishing of lightweight species.

Heavy Standard Casting Lures

This heavy fishing lure is best used for the heaviest fish like bass and walleye. Just like any other lure they come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors.

Long Casting - Jigging Lures

These jigging lures are used for long casting and are used to catch anything from tuna to trout to pike.

Deadly Diamond Lures

This is a small fishing lure that is under 1 ounce and is used to catch the smaller fish. It's cut with a diamond shape on the top and the light reflects from this therefore attracting fish. These lures are typically used for walleye and crappy although can work good for other small species to.

How To Change The Battery On Your Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Mini Light

If you own a keychain size mini light swiss army knife by Victorinox, at some point your battery for the mini light feature will eventually run out. By "mini light", I mean a pocketknife that is 58 mm (about 2 1/4 inches) long when closed. It is simple to change and will allow you to enjoy your lighted swiss army knife and all its functions for years to come.

Battery changing steps:

Dive Watch

Hold the mini light knife in your left hand with the red/white cross and shield logo facing up. On the right side of the top scale you should see a small hole - it is on the side so you'll have to slightly rotate the knife in your hand to see it. It is towards the lower end of the scale on the right. Take a paperclip and bend it so you can use it to poke into this hole. Carefully poke into this hole and push out the old battery. The old battery and a little plastic piece the same color as the knife scale will drop into your hand. Be careful not to lose that little plastic piece! Insert a new battery with the positive side facing up. Put the little plastic piece back into the side of the knife to hide/cover the battery you just put in.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Brands part number for the battery you need is 22068. The battery is a Panasonic CR 1025, 3V. Your new battery should be good for approximately 2 to 2 1/2 years under normal operation of your swiss lite knife. Your handy little swisslite should be as good as new.

Pros And Cons Of The Mares Icon HD Dive Computer

The Mares Icon HD dive computer may not be the cheapest dive computer on the market, but the true HD color display makes it one of the only dive computer models on the market to feature this advanced viewing screen, offering full-color maps that are visible, even under water! Besides the obvious benefits of the HD-LCD display with thin film transistor, also known as TFT, what are the other pros and cons you can expect to discover with this dive computer watch?

Features:

Dive Watch

The features are probably the biggest pros of this product, besides the fact it is made by Mares, which is a leading manufacturer for the diving community. You get easy to read large icons, a 3 ½ inch screen and innovative software, which offers a map and picture function, besides the double diving mode options for extended or profile. Besides storing your images and dive site maps, you can take advantage of more than 100 hours of dive logging and with the rechargeable lithium batteries, its low maintenance cost and manufacturer's warranty allow you to just enjoy the vivid color display.

Actual User Reviews:

If you consider what actual customers have to say about the Mares Icon HD dive computer, the pros outweigh the cons. It's hard not to love the large colorful display that allows you to review your dive while underwater or you can take advantage of the compass and see the depth measurements clearly. Users report that functions that allow you to log your multiple daily logs, also allow you to download the log book from the Icon, giving you a record of your dives.

Appearance:

This dive computer features a sporty black watch band, besides the sporty wide framed display that is truly like wearing a personal high-def computer screen on your wrist. The multiple-colored readings, graphics and numbers make it easy to read the device above the water's surfaces and offers ease of use for when you are in the murky depths.

Are There Any Cons?

The Mares Icon HD Dive Computer isn't for amateurs that aren't serious about their diving electronics. Like many other dive computers, you can expect to pay around ,000, making it too expensive for those that are occasional partakers in scuba diving adventures. On the other hand, it is not any more expensive than comparable models, although it is the only one of the market with the HD display. There can be a glitch with logging your dives, but it doesn't seem to be a serious problem because it might be user errors, encountered when first utilizing the various functions. With the manufacturer's warranty and a little exposure to the function buttons, this isn't a con that can't be overcome. It offers plenty of useful features, but not so many that it can't be figured out by the average user.

Conclusion:

This model of dive computer has taken "display" to the next level and it is an easy-to-use device, once you learn the basic four-button functionality. For the more serious and frequent scuba diving community, the Mares Icon HD Dive Computer will offer a helpful accounting of your dives and offer colorful maps and compass or depth functions underwater, which is when you need them the most!
